Trump Slaps 25% Tariff on India Over Russian Oil Imports

Business

U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian imports in response to India’s continued purchases of Russian oil, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

The order, citing a national emergency declared under Executive Order 14066, directs Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick—alongside the Secretaries of State and Treasury—to determine if other countries are also indirectly importing Russian oil, potentially leading to further tariffs.

“If found in violation, similar 25% duties could be imposed,” the order states.

Trump criticized India for allegedly profiting from the resale of Russian oil. New Delhi called the move “unfair, unjustified and unreasonable,” vowing to defend its national interests.
