Media Workers Demand Pay Rise

Bulgaria

Employees of Bulgaria’s national media outlets—BTA, BNT, and BNR—staged protests on Thursday in Sofia and other cities under the slogan "Work in the media has value," demanding a 15% salary increase, CE Report quotes BTA

Unions estimate the required state funding at BGN 14 million. CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov criticized claims that the state budget cannot accommodate the raise, calling the argument baseless given Bulgaria’s BGN 100 billion budget.

Protests took place in cities including Varna, Blagoevgrad, Shumen, and Plovdiv. The demonstration was supported by the Association of European Journalists in Bulgaria. A similar protest occurred in March.
