Bulgarian Visit to Zograf Monastery

Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov led a Bulgarian delegation to Zograf Monastery on Mount Athos on Monday, describing the visit as “filled with strong emotion” and “unforgettable.” The occasion marked the feast day of St. George, celebrated by the traditional Bulgarian pilgrimage, CE Report quotes BTA

The delegation included senior officials such as Hristo Gadzhev, Chair of the Parliamentary Defence Committee; Filip Popov, Deputy Minister of Interior; and Kiril Valchev, Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency, among others. They joined Bishop Gerasim of Melnik for the two-day visit on May 5–6.

Participants met with the spiritual leadership of Mt. Athos and took part in religious services, including the Divine Liturgy and a procession with the icon of St. George. Zafirov noted that another delegation will return soon for the enthronement of the new hegumen.
