MP Bozhidar Bozhanov to Waive Immunity Amid Malfeasance Allegations
MP Bozhidar Bozhanov of Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) announced on Friday that he will voluntarily waive his immunity to face prosecution over alleged malfeasance in office during his tenure as electronic governance minister. He plans to submit his immunity waiver on Tuesday and pledged full cooperation with authorities, stating he is not concerned about the trial's outcome, CE Report quotes BTA
Earlier, the Prosecution Service reported that acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov requested the National Assembly to lift the immunity of Bozhanov and fellow CC-DB MP Kiril Petkov. Bozhanov is suspected of favoring a consortium in a BGN 18 million public procurement bid while serving as minister in 2021-2022.
In a statement by Yes Bulgaria! (a CC-DB member party), Bozhanov dismissed the allegations as "fabricated nonsense" and expressed confidence in the Bulgarian courts. He also noted that, despite urging the prosecution to act quickly, he has yet to be questioned.
