Snowstorm Causes Power Outages and Road Closures Nationwide

Bulgaria

Heavy snowfall on Thursday caused widespread power outages and road closures across the country, with mountainous regions being hit the hardest, CE Report quotes BTA

Over 150 repair teams are working around the clock to restore power in Western Bulgaria, but their efforts are hindered by fallen trees and impassable roads, according to Electricity Distribution Networks West EAD. The most challenging areas include Troyan, Samokov, Teteven, Lovech, Botevgrad, and Apriltsi, where snowdrifts remain high. A coordination center has been established to deploy additional teams to the most affected regions.

Nearly 90 villages in Gabrovo Municipality are without power due to heavy, wet snow, according to an announcement on the municipality's Facebook page. Power outages have also been reported in two Gabrovo boroughs, Belentsi and Nedevtsi.

Lovech and surrounding settlements are also experiencing significant outages, while several areas in Sofia, including Vladaya, Dragalevtsi, Bistritsa, Zheleznitsa, and nearby villa zones, are similarly affected, as shown on Electricity Distribution Networks West EAD's online map.

The snowstorm also disrupted operations at Borovets Resort, where the ski area is closed until midday, with power restoration expected by noon.
