Minister of Tourism of the Greek Government Olga Kefalogianni said that the message Greece is sending abroad is that it remains a country of stability, safety, and credibility—an important factor in times of uncertainty—during an interview with Greek state radio, as reported by MIA’s correspondent from Athens.

The minister stressed that geopolitical developments are not affecting Greek tourism, CE Report quotes MIA.

She explained that authorities are in constant contact with international tourism stakeholders, including tour operators and airlines, adding that “there is an assessment that this war could impact our competitors, potentially creating conditions that Greece could take advantage of.”

However, she noted that while the war continues, the situation is being monitored with seriousness and calm.

“Given that we have the tools and monitor developments on a weekly basis together with the Institute of the Greek Hotel Chamber, Greece at this stage is not affected by geopolitical developments. I say this based on data. We are seeing some cancellations, mainly from Israel, due to objective circumstances. We also know that Israelis will be among the first to return to Greece once the war ends, as they consider Greece a safe country,” the minister said.

At the same time, she highlighted that 2026 has already started on a positive note. According to official data, January and February have seen significant growth compared to the same period last year. She also recalled that 2025 was the best and a record year for Greek tourism, with a “notable increase in revenues.”

According to official figures, nearly 38 million tourists visited Greece last year, a 5.6% increase compared to 2024, while tourism revenues rose by 9.4%, reaching €23.6 billion.
