Milan Airport Strike Cancels 64 Flights at Linate and Malpensa
A strike called by grassroots unions at Milan’s airports has led to the cancellation of 64 flights—34 at Linate and 32 at Malpensa—causing delays, flight disruptions, and issues with baggage handling services, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The workers’ organizations announced the strike, explaining that employees from various companies are participating. The goal of the protest is to defend purchasing power, which they say has declined by more than 20% in recent years.
The unions are specifically demanding:
Sunday pay bonuses
Payment for washing work uniforms and PPE
Proper holiday pay
Recognition of company-level wage adjustments
The unions also pointed out that, outside guaranteed time slots, 32 of 168 flights subject to strike action at Malpensa have already been canceled, along with 34 of 90 flights departing from Linate.
"The responsibility for this situation and the inconvenience caused," the unions concluded, "lies with the companies and with SEA, who refuse to engage in talks with workers’ representatives."
