Moldovan Guesthouse Transformed with IFAD Aid
In the serene forests near Seliște village, Nisporeni district, the agro-pension Hanul Haiducilor has emerged as a model of sustainable rural tourism in Moldova. Managed by entrepreneur Ovidiu Tîmbur, the guesthouse evolved from a small initiative in 2013 into a regional attraction, offering traditional cuisine, lakeside gazebos, a pool, and eco-gardens, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES
Facing shifting tourist trends and post-pandemic challenges, Tîmbur reoriented the business from banquet hosting to nature-based accommodation. With 990,000 lei in funding from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) — through Moldova’s Consolidated Unit for Project Implementation — the guesthouse added three rustic wooden cabins equipped for year-round stays.
This transformation expanded the business model to cater to couples, families, and small groups seeking authentic rural experiences, organic produce, and recreational activities like fishing and orchard walks.
The Hanul Haiducilor story illustrates how IFAD’s targeted financial support can help rural entrepreneurs adapt, thrive, and preserve Moldova’s traditional charm through sustainable tourism.
