Albanian Riviera goes viral as Maldives lookalike

The Maldives is a dream destination for many tourists, but it is also a long and expensive journey, writes Blathin de Paor in the Irish daily "RSVP Live", CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

The clean white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters attract visitors from all over the world.

However, traveling there involves long flights and high costs.

A week's stay in one of its famous overwater villas - during peak season - can cost 2300 euros for two people - without taking into account the cost of flights.

Fortunately, there is an alternative much closer to Ireland - Albania, which according to travel experts is similar to the Maldives.

Albania, a hidden gem, is still affordable and free of crowds of visitors - compared to other popular destinations.

With its stunning beaches and turquoise waters, the Albanian Riviera offers a spectacular seaside escape.

And although its popularity is growing, it remains an affordable European destination.

Luxury seaside stays can be found for as little as 23 euros a night, while food is affordable, with full meals and drinks often costing around 18 euros.

Albania has become a viral sensation on social media, with videos showing its striking resemblance to the Maldives.

Flights from Ireland to Albania are surprisingly cheap. While there are currently no direct flights from Dublin to Tirana International Airport, several airlines offer one-stop routes, including Lufthansa via Munich or Frankfurt, Brussels Airlines via Brussels, and Swiss Airlines via Zurich.

Round-trip prices can start from approximately 142 euros.

Flight duration varies, but typically ranges from 5 hours and 20 minutes to over 8 hours, depending on stops.

Also, tourists can fly to Corfu, Greece, and take a ferry to the Albanian coast for about 18 euros each way.

This alternative allows tourists to visit both destinations without affecting their budget.

With its unbeatable affordability, spectacular scenery and growing popularity, Albania is one of the top summer holiday destinations for Irish tourists in 2025.
