Google shakes up AI race again
Google has just introduced another twist in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence race — and its biggest competitors are taking notice.
“We are pleased with Google’s success — they have made major advances in AI and we continue to supply Google,” Nvidia wrote in a November 25 post on X, before adding that “NVIDIA offers greater performance, flexibility, and interchangeability than ASICs” (application-specific integrated circuits) such as those produced by Google.
“Congratulations to Google on Gemini 3! It looks like an excellent model,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also wrote on X.
The posts came only days after the surge of excitement surrounding Google’s Gemini 3 model — and the chips built by Google that help power it. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff wrote on X that he will no longer return to ChatGPT after trying Google’s new model, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
“The leap is crazy — the reasoning, the speed, the images, the videos… everything is sharper and faster. Feels like the world just changed again,” he wrote.
According to The Information, Meta is reportedly in talks with Google to buy its Tensor chips, while Anthropic said in October that it plans to significantly expand the use of Google’s technology.
Google’s shares rose nearly 8% last week, while Nvidia’s fell a little over 2%.
More is at stake than simple bragging rights or a few sales contracts. As the tech industry claims, artificial intelligence will reshape the world — including the investment portfolios of everyone from billionaires to retirees with 401(k)s — so whichever company and vision wins could affect almost every American, according to the BBC.
At first glance, Nvidia’s post suggests the company is not worried about Google entering its territory. And for good reason — Google’s chips are fundamentally different from Nvidia’s offerings, meaning they are not a true one-to-one alternative.
