Airdrop now works with Android via Quick Share

Tech & Science

Apple’s transfer technology, AirDrop, has long been considered one of the most important features of the iPhone, but until now it has been used only by users who had the same type of device.

From now on, data transfer between Apple and Google devices will also work with Android, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

Google’s latest Pixel smartphones will be the first to launch this feature, with other devices expected to follow soon.

According to Google, in order to share data, iPhone users only need to temporarily enable AirDrop for “everyone” in the settings.

“In our effort to make cross-platform communication as seamless as possible, we have made Quick Share compatible with AirDrop. This enables mutual file sharing between Android and iOS devices,” Google announced.

Apple and Google did not collaborate, but the implementation was carried out unilaterally by the Android provider, as confirmed by a Google spokesperson to The Verge.

As part of the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), Apple was urged earlier this year to open the proprietary Apple Wireless Direct Link protocol in favor of the open Wi-Fi Aware standard.

Apple implemented this with iOS 26, meaning Quick Share will work only with Apple devices running the latest software version.

AirDrop is not the first technology Apple has been required to revise as part of EU regulations. Recently, the translation function of the new AirPods Pro 3 was also adapted to comply with EU rules.
