White House Slashes NASA Budget
The U.S. administration plans to cut NASA funding by nearly a quarter in 2026.
This was reported by TASS, citing a budget proposal published by the White House, CE Report quotes ANSA.
According to a note attached to the proposal, the government intends to allocate $18.8 billion to NASA, down from the current $24.8 billion.
This would represent a 24% reduction. Nearly all of NASA’s operations would be affected, including the International Space Station (ISS). Funding for the ISS would be cut by $508 million.
The proposal also affects some research projects unrelated to manned spaceflight. Among them is the project to collect rock samples from Mars and bring them back to Earth.
However, overall spending on manned spaceflight would increase by $647 million. The White House stated its intention to return Americans to the Moon before China and eventually send humans to Mars.
