North Macedonian tennis star knocked out in Palermo WTA 125 first round

North Macedonian tennis player Lina Gjorcheska was eliminated in the first round of the WTA 125 tournament in Palermo after losing to Erika Andreeva in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, in a match lasting 82 minutes, CE Report informs.

The two players were ranked next to each other in the WTA rankings ahead of the match, with Gjorcheska in 214th place and Andreeva in 215th, CE Report informs via the North Macedonian Tennis Federation's official website.

The first set was decided in the eighth game when, on Gjorcheska's serve, the players contested a marathon game lasting 32 points, with Andreeva converting her 10th set point.

In the second set, the Russian player broke Gjorcheska's serve three times and completed a dominant 6-0 victory.

Gjorcheska will receive one WTA ranking point for her participation in the tournament.

Next week, the North Macedonian player is scheduled to compete at the ITF W75 tournament in Hechingen, Germany.
