Trump envoy asks FIFA to replace Iran with Italy at World Cup
Paolo Zampolli, special envoy of Donald Trump, has asked FIFA to replace Iran with Italy at the 2026 World Cup.
According to the Financial Times, citing sources, the plan “is an attempt to repair relations between Donald Trump and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni” following the president’s criticism of the Pope over the war in Iran, CE Report quotes ANSA.
“I confirm that I suggested to Trump and Gianni Infantino replacing Iran with Italy at the World Cup. It would be a dream to see the Azzurri at a World Cup in the United States. With four titles, the Azzurri have the pedigree to justify inclusion,” Zampolli told the Financial Times.
