Senegal no longer 2026 Africa Cup winner
A decision by the Confederation of African Football has officially changed the winner of the 2026 Africa Cup.
CAF has ruled that Senegal national football team will lose the championship title, while Morocco national football team is declared the official winner of the tournament. The decision came after reviewing a complaint regarding the final held in Rabat, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Initially, Senegal had won the match 1–0 after extra time, but the result has been overturned to a 3–0 win for Morocco by default, according to CAF Media.
The main reason for the decision was a serious incident during the final, when Senegal’s players left the field for about 15 minutes in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco.
According to CAF regulations, this is considered a serious violation and match abandonment. Despite returning and winning the match on the field, disciplinary bodies ruled that the match be recorded as a forfeit loss for Senegal.
The Senegalese federation called the decision unfair and scandalous and has announced an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The event is being described as one of the most controversial in African football history.
Morocco wins its second title in history, while Senegal loses a trophy it had earned on the pitch.
