Slovenia's Domen Prevc has won the ski flying world title in Oberstdorf, Germany in another display of dominance to become the third Slovenian ever to claim this individual title.

Prevc, who is having a great season and topping the men's overall World Cup ranking, scored 905.4 points in the four rounds of the competition, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.

Norway's Marius Lindvik, the 2022 ski flying world champion, won silver (845.9) and Japan's Ren Nikaido claimed bronze (842.4).

Prevc's advantage of 59.5 points on the silver medallist is the second largest in the history of individual events at the Ski Flying World Championships.

He achieved jumps of 204 metres, 224.5 metres, 232 metres and 222.5 metres. He did the telemark landing after the last one and then took a bow to cap it all off.

This is the 26-year-old's first ski flying world title in individual competitions. He is the third Slovenian to have achieved this feat after his older brother Peter Prevc claimed the title in 2016 and Robert Kranjec did it in 2012.

His victory also marks Slovenia's 12th medal at the Ski Flying World Championships, and his great form bodes well for the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Talking to TV Slovenija, the new ski flying world champion said:

"The way everything is unfolding is incredible ... I'm happy that everything is falling into place, the effort I've been putting in is now paying off."

He added that his childhood dreams are coming true and that he will need some time to reflect on all of his achievements this season.

The current holder of the world record for the longest jump, Prevc also won the prestigious Four Hills Tournament as part of the World Cup earlier this month. He became the third Slovenian to have done this, after his brother Peter in the 2015-16 season and Primož Peterka back in the 1996-97 season.

Slovenia is now set to take part in the team event at the Ski Flying World Championships on 25 January. They are pursuing a hat-trick after they won the title in 2022 and 2024.
