The Serbian national water polo team won the gold medal at the European Championship.

Serbia defeated Hungary 10–7 (3:2, 2:3, 2:1, 3:1) in the final held in Belgrade, CE Report quotes MIA.

The first two quarters were evenly matched, and the score was tied 5–5 at halftime. At the start of the third quarter, Serbia was the first to take a two-goal lead when Vasilije Martinović scored for 7–5 with a man advantage.

In the remainder of the third quarter, Hungary reduced the deficit to 7–6, and with that score the final entered the last period.

With four minutes and 13 seconds remaining, Serbia went up 8–6, and three minutes before the end, the hosts extended their lead to three goals, which proved unreachable for the Hungarians.

This is Serbia’s sixth European Championship title as an independent country, and the first after a break of eight years.
