Guardiola urges caution in comparing Lamine Yamal to Lionel Messi

Pep Guardiola has responded with maturity and responsibility to the growing excitement surrounding Barcelona’s young talent, Lamine Yamal. The Manchester City coach, in a recent interview with GQ Hype, called on fans and the public to be cautious with comparisons, especially those involving Lionel Messi, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

“Comparing Lamine Yamal to Messi is a big thing. It’s like comparing a painter to Van Gogh,” said Guardiola, emphasizing that despite the extraordinary talent of the 17-year-old, it is unfair and harmful to place such a heavy burden on so young a player’s shoulders.

Guardiola, who witnessed Messi’s breakthrough at Barcelona and led one of the club’s most glorious eras, stressed that every player should have the time and space to build their own unique career.

“We must allow him to follow his own path, to grow as a footballer and as a person, without unnecessary pressure. Players like him need support, not comparisons,” added the Catalan coach.

Lamine Yamal, who made impressive appearances last season for Barcelona and the Spanish national team, is regarded as one of the most promising talents in European football. However, Guardiola’s words serve as a reminder that success at the highest level requires patience, calm, and above all, a healthy environment for development.
