Romanian tennis star wins Iasi Open title

Romanian tennis player Irina Begu claimed the UniCredit Iasi Open (WTA 250) title on Sunday, defeating Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann 6-0, 7-5 in the final.

Begu, 34, ranked 110th in the world and seeded 7th, secured the win in 1 hour and 33 minutes. She now leads 4-1 in her head-to-head with Teichmann, including a previous win in Iasi in 2023, CE Report quotes AGERPRES

This marks Begu’s sixth WTA title, with previous victories in Tashkent (2012), Seoul (2015), Florianopolis (2016), Bucharest (2017), and Palermo (2022). She earned €31,565 and 250 WTA points for the win.

Teichmann, seeded 6th, took home €18,685 and 163 points.

In doubles, Veronika Erjavec (Slovenia) and Panna Udvardy (Hungary) beat Maria Lourdes Carle (Argentina) and Simona Waltert (Switzerland) 7-5, 6-3.
