David Beckham honoured for service to UK
Former England captain David Beckham has been awarded the title of Knight of the King's Order in the King’s Birthday Honours ceremony, alongside former Wimbledon tennis champion Virginia Wade and rising darts talent Luke Littler.
Beckham, who won titles in four countries and played 115 matches for his national team, was honored for his contributions to sport and charity, CE Report quotes ATA.
Sir David also won the Champions League with Manchester United in 1999, and after retiring as a player, he became a founder and co-owner of the American club Inter Miami.
He has served as a global ambassador for UNICEF since 2005 and became an ambassador for the King’s Foundation last year.
“Growing up in East London with such patriotic and proud British parents and grandparents, I never imagined I would receive such a humbling honor,” Beckham said in a statement.
