Sir David Beckham: Football Icon Knighted

Sports

David Beckham, former England football captain, was awarded a knighthood on Friday in King Charles' Birthday Honors List, recognizing his achievements in sport and charity, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Now 50, Beckham received the title of “Sir” over 20 years after leading the national team and enjoying a star-studded career with Manchester United, Real Madrid, and LA Galaxy.

“Captaining my country was the greatest privilege of my career,” Beckham said, adding that he’s proud to have represented Britain both on and off the pitch.

The honor stirred memories of his legendary 2001 free kick against Greece, which secured England’s place in the 2002 World Cup—an iconic moment that once prompted calls to “give this man a knighthood.”
