The World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship, held on Wall Street in New York from December 26-28, has seen strong performances from Bulgarian players, CE Report quotes BTA

Grandmaster Ivan Cheparinov climbed to 52nd place in the men's tournament after securing three victories in a single day. Despite an initial loss to Azerbaijan's Mahammad Muradli, Cheparinov bounced back with wins against Viktor Matviishen (Ukraine), Ivan Zemlyanskii (Russia), and Luca Moroni (Italy), amassing 5.5 points.

In the women’s event, Nadia Toncheva is the highest-ranked Bulgarian, currently in 54th place with 4 points. She defeated Armenia's Mariam Mkrtchyan, drew with Germany's Josefine Heinemann and Georgia's Nana Dzagnidze, but lost to China’s Qian Huang.

Gergana Peycheva, who started the tournament strongly, faced setbacks with two losses and two draws on the second day. She is now ranked 74th. Meanwhile, Beloslava Krasteva holds 90th place with 3 points, claiming victories against players from Bangladesh and Panama.

The women's tournament consists of 11 rounds, while the men's event features 13 rounds. Stay tuned for updates as the competition progresses.
