
Key Figure of Romania’s Post-Communist Era
Former Romanian President Ion Iliescu, a key figure of the country’s 1990s transition, died on Tuesday at the age of 95. He had been hospitalized since early June with lung cancer and passed away at 3:55 pm, according to medical officials, CE Report quotes AGERPRES
Bucharest President Nicușor Dan commented on Iliescu's legacy, saying: "History will judge Ion Iliescu, the central figure of the 1990s transition. It is our duty to clarify the major cases of that era to move forward with responsibility. May God forgive him."
