More than 80 people of all ages have already signed up for Marea Moșmondeală (“The Great Santa Run”), the city’s only race where participants run dressed as Santa Claus.

The event will take place on Friday, starting from the Christmas Market in the historic center of Sibiu, Romania, according to the organizers, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

“This unique race, the only one of its kind in Sibiu, is not a competition — it’s a ‘fun run’ with a charitable purpose, aimed at supporting the wheelchair basketball team. Marea Moșmondeală will take place regardless of the weather,” Dani Troancă from Clubul Comunitar Sibiu, the event organizer.

Not only locals are taking part in Marea Moșmondeală. This year again, Santas from Brașov, Hunedoara, and Bucharest have registered.

“As every year, we run, enjoy the holiday spirit, and support our beloved team: Zburătorii, who play wheelchair basketball and compete in many national tournaments. There are no timers, records, or podiums — just Santas of all ages who run (or walk, or dance), with rosy cheeks and full hearts. With an entry fee of 110 lei for adults and 75 lei for children, you receive not only the joy of doing a good deed, but also a fun race number, a medal lovingly crafted by Diakoniewerk, and a voucher for hot wine or tea after the run, plus a party moment with good music right in the middle of the Christmas Market,” the event description says.
