Romania Among the Safest Countries Worldwide, Reports Show

Romania

Romania ranks among the countries with the lowest crime rates globally, surpassing many Western European nations, according to reports from the US State Department and the European Commission, the Ministry of Interior (MAI) announced on Friday, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Official documents highlight Romania's significant strides in combating crime, confirming its status as a safe destination for both citizens and tourists. The country records lower-than-average figures for crimes such as robberies, thefts, and violent acts compared to European and global standards.

The US State Department’s Report for American Citizens Traveling Abroad rates Romania as having low to very low crime risks. Key safety indicators, such as low rates of home burglaries, car thefts, robberies, and violent attacks, further underline the country's strong safety record. Additionally, Romania sees minimal incidents motivated by ethnic, religious, or gender-based discrimination.

While challenges like drug-related issues and vandalism persist, the overall crime rate has seen only a moderate increase over the past five years.

The MAI attributes these positive results to the dedication of police officers, border guards, and firefighters, who work in coordination with other government and international agencies to ensure public safety. Collaboration with European Union institutions and US partners has been pivotal in maintaining Romania's reputation as a safe and secure country.
