Moldova continues to make tangible progress toward European Union membership thanks to the sustained efforts of those working on the accession process and the continued support of its European partners, acting Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov said.

Gherasimov said Moldova's progress reflects the continuous work of the team involved in the country's European integration efforts, as well as the trust and support it receives from the European Union, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.

"Moldova continues to move forward and achieve its goals because it has people working tirelessly for this objective and, of course, because it has friends who believe in our European future," she said.

The deputy prime minister thanked European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood (DG ENEST), for their support, confidence, and assistance in preparing and opening negotiations on Cluster 6.

"This new step on our European path is the result of close cooperation and a shared effort. Thank you for your partnership and for the trust you have placed in the Republic of Moldova. Together, we continue to bring Moldova closer to the European Union," Gherasimov said.

Moldova officially opened EU accession negotiations on Cluster 1 – Fundamental Values on June 15, 2026, during the second EU-Moldova Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg. The cluster covers key areas including the rule of law, judicial reform, fundamental rights, democratic institutions, and security.

On July 14, 2026, Moldova also opened Cluster 6 – External Relations during the third EU-Moldova Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels. The cluster includes negotiations on external relations and the common foreign, security, and defence policy, marking another milestone in the country's EU accession process just one month after the opening of the first cluster.
