Greece is among 18 EU member states that have applied for inclusion in the European Commission's new Security Action for Europe (SAFE) instrument, aimed at strengthening collective defense and resilience, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

Other applicants include Cyprus, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, and Romania, with total funding requests reaching €127 billion. SAFE, launched in March, can provide up to €150 billion in loans for defense, cyber capabilities, dual-use infrastructure, and strategic supply chains.

Member states must submit full project details by November 30, 2025. EU Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius, welcomed the strong interest, calling it a sign of “unity and ambition” in enhancing Europe’s security.
