Record Number of Independents in Moldova Vote
Two political parties and eleven independent candidates have submitted documents to run in Moldova’s parliamentary elections scheduled for September 28, according to Central Electoral Commission (CEC) head Angelica Caraman, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES
Caraman noted that one party had to reapply after an initial rejection for incomplete documentation. Meanwhile, interest from independents has reached a record high, with eleven individuals seeking candidacy — a first for the country.
Two independents have already formed initiative groups and received signature collection lists, as required by electoral law.
To enter parliament, blocs must receive 7% of the vote, parties 5%, and independents 2%. In the previous election, no independent succeeded in crossing the threshold.
Caraman urged all candidates to follow the legal procedures and deadlines. The upcoming election will determine Moldova’s next parliament for a four-year term.
