
Greece Marks Cyprus Invasion Anniversary
Greece will never forget the sacrifice of those who defended Cyprus or its duty to help reunite the island, President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine Tassoulas said on Sunday, marking 51 years since the 1974 Turkish invasion, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
In his statement, Tassoulas condemned the continued Turkish military presence, calling it a violation of international law and the UN Charter. He highlighted the ongoing division of the island, the displacement of people, human rights violations, and the destruction of cultural heritage.
“We honor those who fought and died in 1974 for Cyprus’s independence and promise to keep working for a just and lasting solution, in line with UN resolutions and EU law,” the president said.
