Oman–Bulgaria Strategic Partnership

In a landmark diplomatic breakthrough, Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi paid an official visit to Bulgaria from July 2 to 4, 2025 — the first since diplomatic relations were established. Hosted by Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev, the visit marked a new chapter in bilateral ties and set the stage for a strategic partnership between the two nations, CE Report quotes BTA

A key outcome of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation, including joint efforts in energy security, renewables, and LNG trade. The agreement, endorsed in a trilateral meeting with Bulgarian Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, also paves the way for joint investments and technology transfer.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov praised Oman’s decisive role in the January release of Bulgarian sailors from the hijacked Galaxy Leader, calling it a demonstration of true friendship and responsible diplomacy.

Both countries committed to expanding cooperation in digital innovation, tourism, education, and artificial intelligence. Bulgaria also announced plans to open a diplomatic mission in Oman, with hopes for reciprocal representation in Sofia.

Minister Al Busaidi emphasized Oman's dedication to peace and partnership, underlining shared values and Oman’s openness to Bulgarian investment. In recognition of his humanitarian work, he will be awarded the Badge of Honour of the President of Bulgaria.

The visit concluded with a shared pledge to deepen dialogue and coordination on regional and global stability.
