Chisinau Without Budget
Chisinau is now the only city in Moldova without an approved budget, according to government spokesperson Daniel Voda. While the municipality focuses on image campaigns, the government is advancing modernization projects like the European Courtyard program, aimed at improving residential areas, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES
Voda criticized city hall for its inaction on the budget and noted a sharp drop in its social spending—from 622 million lei in 2023 to just 375 million lei in 2025. In contrast, the government has boosted national social assistance by 3.8 billion lei, supporting 720,000 vulnerable families, including in Chisinau.
He also highlighted that in 2023, around 1,200 personal assistants in the capital were unjustly dismissed or had their hours cut, but the government intervened to compensate and reinstate them.
“Last winter, despite promises, the city hall failed to offer heating support. The government stepped in. Because Moldova can—and does,” said Voda.
He concluded that the “Moldova Can” campaign will continue to inform the public about government actions and highlight local shortcomings.
