Friday marks the last day of campaigning for Romania’s presidential runoff candidates, George Simion and Nicusor Dan. The official campaign period, which began on May 9 following the Constitutional Court’s validation of the first-round results, ends Saturday, May 17 at 7:00 a.m, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Simion, representing the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, led the first round with 40.96% of the vote, while independent candidate Nicusor Dan secured 20.99%. The decisive second round takes place Sunday, May 18.

The Permanent Electoral Authority has called for a fair, honest, and transparent campaign.

Meanwhile, Friday also marks the start of voting abroad, beginning with New Zealand’s polling station in Auckland, which opened Thursday evening Romanian time. Electoral propaganda is strictly forbidden after the campaign ends.
