
Moldova Reaffirms Commitment at CoE Meeting
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi represented Moldova at the 134th session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, held in Luxembourg with representatives from 46 member and observer states, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES
Popșoi emphasized Moldova's commitment to democratic values, the rule of law, and human rights amid ongoing geopolitical instability. He called for the creation of a Special Tribunal to address the crime of aggression against Ukraine and condemned Kremlin efforts to undermine Moldova’s European path.
He also announced that Moldova is preparing to assume the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers from November 2025 to May 2026, with key events planned in Chișinău and Strasbourg. The presidency will culminate in a ministerial meeting in Chișinău on May 14–15, 2026.
The session included decisions on support for Ukraine and the launch of the new Council of Europe Convention on the protection of lawyers, which Moldova signed. Malta officially assumed the presidency until November 2025.
Popșoi also held a trilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Monaco and Montenegro to coordinate priorities for future presidencies, focusing on strengthening the European human rights system, countering disinformation, hybrid threats, and promoting youth engagement.
