Sandu Calls to Finish Judicial Reform
President Maia Sandu has called for the full completion of Moldova’s judicial reform, emphasizing that cleansing the justice system is vital for its proper functioning. Speaking on TV8, Sandu noted that around 140 judges have left the system over the past four years, most due to integrity concerns, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES
“The process of cleansing the judiciary is ongoing and must be completed,” Sandu said, stressing the need to bring in new professionals to restore public trust and increase efficiency.
She expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of the Vetting Commission and said the evaluation of prosecutors must follow the judges' vetting.
“If I were a prosecutor, I’d be directly involved in this fight,” Sandu added, highlighting the limits of her presidential role.
Public trust in Moldova's justice system currently stands at 51.7%, according to a March 2025 UNDP study. Notaries ranked highest in trust among justice institutions, followed by local authorities and bailiffs.
