Mitsotakis Meets Meloni in Rome

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will visit Rome on Monday for talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, followed by a meeting of the Greece-Italy High Cooperation Council—the first since 2017, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

The leaders will address key European issues including competitiveness, defence, migration, and the EU’s strategic autonomy. As frontline countries on migration, Greece and Italy are expected to push for stronger external border protection and deeper cooperation with third countries.

Discussions will also cover bilateral defence collaboration, regional stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, and energy connectivity, particularly enhancing the electrical interconnection between the two nations.

Mitsotakis will be joined by a delegation of top ministers, underscoring the breadth of cooperation expected in areas such as trade, investment, climate protection, and transport.

This meeting builds on Meloni’s visit to Athens in August 2023.
