Trump Promises “Fair” Trade Deal with China

Trump Promises “Fair” Trade Deal with China

Politics

U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that any future trade deal with China will be “fair,” insisting that the relationship had previously “got out of control” under past administrations. Speaking at the White House, Trump emphasized a positive tone toward negotiations with Beijing, saying both sides will be “very nice” but warning that China “has to make a deal” to maintain access to the U.S. market, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

The president confirmed that negotiations are “actively” underway and reiterated his commitment to rebalancing the trade relationship. This comes after Trump increased tariffs on Chinese goods, with the base rate now at 145% due to cumulative levies, and some products facing total duties of up to 245%.

Trump said the tariff rates would be lowered “substantially” in a deal, though “it won’t be zero.”
