Mitsotakis Promises More Student Housing

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Aghia Varvara in western Athens on Holy Monday, accompanied by Archbishop Hieronymos. Touring a student dormitory run by the Apostolic Ministry of the Church of Greece, he praised the Church’s role in supporting students and pledged further collaboration to expand housing options for university students, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Mitsotakis highlighted government plans to renovate dormitories and utilize Church-owned land for new facilities. Archbishop Hieronymos announced construction of a new dormitory on Alexandras Avenue starting in May. The PM also thanked private donors and affirmed the government’s commitment to doubling funding for the Apostolic Ministry.

In addition, both leaders welcomed a new lifelong allowance for people aged 18–65 with hearing disabilities, and Mitsotakis noted the approval of 600 new clerical positions at historic patriarchates and Mt. Sinai Monastery.

Wrapping up his visit, Mitsotakis told locals: “We are going strong… the best is yet to come.”
