Turkey Warns Israel's Actions Pose Regional Threat

Politics

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has warned that Israel's aggressive stance towards its neighbors presents a serious threat to regional stability, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Speaking to the Financial Times, Fidan criticized Israel's recent attacks on southern Syria, calling them a "clear provocation." He argued that Israel's strategy of weakening its border states is unsustainable and dangerous.

Fidan also addressed Türkiye’s concerns over the PKK/YPG-led SDF in Syria, calling it a direct threat to Türkiye. He stated that Türkiye is prepared to take control of camps and prisons in northeastern Syria, where ISIS terrorists are held, if necessary.

On broader security issues, Fidan commented on US President Donald Trump’s actions, suggesting they highlight the need for Europe to rethink its security strategy. He emphasized that Türkiye, a NATO member for over 70 years, would seek a role in any new European security framework should NATO weaken.

"The genie is out of the bottle," Fidan said, warning that future US administrations might further reduce support for European security.
