Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he had a "lengthy and highly productive" conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The discussion covered topics such as Ukraine, the Middle East, energy, artificial intelligence, and the global economy, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Trump emphasized their shared belief in "common sense" and expressed a mutual desire to end the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. He stated that both leaders agreed to work closely together and initiate negotiations, starting with a call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Trump assigned Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and special envoy Steve Witkoff to lead the negotiation efforts, expressing confidence in their success.

He reiterated that the war would not have started under his presidency and stressed the need to prevent further loss of life. Trump also thanked Putin for his role in securing the release of Marc Fogel, an American detained in Russia since 2021.

"I believe this effort will lead to a successful conclusion, hopefully soon!" Trump stated.
