Erdogan Honors Victims on Second Anniversary of Devastating Earthquakes

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan commemorated the victims of the catastrophic Feb. 6, 2023, earthquakes in a message shared Thursday on X, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

"I pray to Almighty Allah for mercy on the 53,537 brothers and sisters we lost," Erdogan stated, marking the second anniversary of the disaster, which also left over 107,000 injured.

The president reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to rebuilding, emphasizing the nation’s unity and ongoing support for affected regions. "From day one, we stood together as a state and a people, never wavering in our support," he said.

Erdogan vowed that reconstruction efforts would continue with "unwavering determination" until all displaced citizens had safe homes. He also promised to honor the memory of the victims through prayers and recitations from the Holy Quran.

The earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6, struck 11 Turkish provinces, affecting over 13.5 million people in Türkiye and many in northern Syria.
