Greece Takes Seat as Non-Permanent Member of UN Security Council

As of January 1, 2025, Greece has officially begun its two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis highlighted the significance of this role, emphasizing Greece's commitment to global security and diplomacy, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

"Greece becomes an active contributor to shaping international policy and assumes a substantial role and responsibility in global developments," Gerapetritis stated.

The minister reaffirmed Greece's dedication to principles of International Law and a foreign policy grounded in stability and collaboration. "Our aim is to act as a bridge between North and South, East and West, and to promote the peaceful resolution of disputes," he added.

During its term, Greece plans to foster bilateral and multilateral partnerships with UN member states, reinforcing multilateral diplomacy and the core principles of the UN Charter.
