NATO, Migration, and Healthcare Clashes
Ahead of Poland's June 1 presidential run-off, candidates Rafał Trzaskowski and Krzysztof Nawrocki faced off in a televised debate without journalist questions, focusing on direct exchanges, CE Report quotes PAP
Trzaskowski accused Nawrocki of echoing Putin’s stance on Ukraine’s NATO bid, saying, "You're speaking Putin's language." Nawrocki retorted, "I speak the language of Polish people," alleging Ukrainian President Zelensky was mistreating Poland.
In heated exchanges, Nawrocki confronted Trzaskowski with an old photo of him alongside a man he called a “paedophile,” while Trzaskowski countered by accusing Nawrocki of ties to criminals and hooligan street fights.
Both rejected the EU migration pact. Nawrocki vowed to withdraw from it unilaterally, advocating deportation centers, while Trzaskowski insisted Poland wouldn’t have to accept migrants if it supported Ukraine.
The debate also covered healthcare, taxes, and the visa scandal. Nawrocki accused Trzaskowski of neglecting child psychiatry and aiming to privatize healthcare. Trzaskowski said Nawrocki’s PiS allies were responsible for closing hospitals.
On IVF and civil partnerships, Nawrocki opposed funding IVF but backed recognizing “closest person” status regardless of orientation.
Afterwards, Nawrocki declared the debate a personal victory, while Trzaskowski argued it underscored the need for an experienced leader.
