At the invitation of Communist Party of the Russian Federation leader and member of the State Duma Gennady Zyuganov, Levica party leader Dimitar Apasiev and Levica's presidium member Aleksandar Simonov are on an official visit to Moscow on May 8-10 to celebrate Victory Day over Fascism, 80 years since the capitulation of Nazi Germany and the end of World War II on May 9, 1945, CE Report quotes MIA.
According to a press release from the party, Apasiev gave Thursday a speech at Moscow's Victory Park, pointing out that Levica stood in defense of antifascist values.
"Our grandfathers, the partisans, fought shoulder to shoulder with the Soviet Union nations against our common foe," Apasiev said.
"We were united against fascism and this solidarity is the basis of our historical connection, which we have a duty to protect," he said.
The Levica leader, according to the release, also highlighted the importance of preserving historical truth and of countering attempts at historical revisionism.
He said the victory against fascism in 1945 was "a victory of humankind."
"It is our duty to pass down this truth to next generations and to strengthen peace based on respect, equality and solidarity between nations," he said.
As part of their visit, Apasiev and Simonov will meet with State Duma members of the Communist Party later in the day.
On May 9, they will attend Russia's traditional Victory Day military parade in Moscow's Red Square.
