
Moldova Job Gains
The number of Moldovans migrating for work has declined, dropping from 140,000 in 2019 to 112,000 in 2024, according to Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu. Presenting the data on International Labor Day, Buzu highlighted several improvements in the labor market under the current government, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES
The overall employment rate rose from 40.1% in 2019 to 42.7% in 2024. Women's employment also improved—from 36.5% to 40%, with a notable increase among mothers of young children, from 39.4% to 50.7%.
Youth not engaged in education, training, or work decreased from 30.8% to 25.4%, and informal employment saw a reduction, with the number of people working without contracts falling from 49,000 to just over 39,000.
Despite economic challenges, Buzu expressed optimism, stating that the Economic Growth Plan aims to generate more decent and well-paid jobs.
