Chișinău Clarifies Position on Gas Deliveries to Transnistria

Moldova

Chișinău has neither endorsed nor blocked gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region, emphasizing that the Moldovan government does not negotiate these supplies. Government Spokesman Daniel Vodă explained that while there is national consensus on ensuring residents are not left without energy, Moscow's previous restrictions on gas deliveries had severe consequences, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

Vodă reiterated that when gas was provided through European funds, it was subject to strict conditions, ensuring it was used exclusively for social purposes. Both Chișinău and Brussels have advocated for conditionality to guarantee proper usage.

He also confirmed that the current gas supply to Transnistria is not funded by Moldova or the EU. Given the potential industry restart in the region, Chișinău is prepared to impose competition taxes to ensure a fair economic environment between businesses on both sides of the Dniester River.
