Teen girl rescued from clothes dryer after tense operation

A thirteen-year-old girl in Austria was rescued from a clothes dryer in a complex rescue operation after getting stuck in the narrow space of the drum, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

The child climbed into the appliance but couldn’t get out on her own, said the fire brigade in the Vienna suburb of Mödling.

Emergency services were called last night and initially tried to free the girl without using technical equipment. When this failed, the dryer was dismantled so that the drum was fully visible.

The girl’s condition worsened during the work. She complained of pain and her eyes kept closing, said a firefighter. This prompted the rescue teams to use hydraulic shears to remove the last parts of the casing and save the child.

It is still unknown why the girl got into the dryer and how long she stayed there before the firefighters arrived.
