Cruise ship evacuated in Greece following bomb threat

Greece

Authorities at the port of Syros island, Greece, evacuated the Panama-flagged 'Crown Iris' cruiseship as a precaution following a call of a bomb threat.

According to the Coat Guard, an unidentified person had contacted the cruiseship through VHF, saying there was an explosive mechanism placed at the ship's hull, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.

The captain informed immediately the Syros Coast Guard, which initiated investigations with officials, a specially trained dog, and a private diver. They were expected to be joined by the Coast Guard's Underwater Operations Unit dispatched to the island.

The cruiseship was expected to sail to Haifa, Israel, with 940 passengers and 597 crew, a total of 1,537 people.

No explosive device has been found so far, while authorities are continuing investigations.
