North Korea possesses up to 2,000 kg of highly enriched uranium thanks to determined efforts to "drastically" expand its nuclear capabilities in recent years, CE Report quotes ANSA.

This estimate was given by South Korea’s Minister of Unification, Chung Dong-young, during a press conference, based on public data from experts, according to the Yonhap news agency.

"An urgent stop is needed. Even right now, uranium centrifuges in four areas of the North are operating to accumulate nuclear material," Chung added.

The resumption of North Korea-US talks would be a "turning point" compared to the current deadlock over denuclearizing the reclusive country.
