Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov has inaugurated the EU’s largest local power-storage facility near Lovech, Bulgaria, the Energy Ministry announced Thursday. The site, with a capacity of nearly 500 megawatt-hours, is expected to meet local demand and marks the first step toward deploying 10,000 MWh of battery storage nationwide within a year, CE Report quotes BTA

Built from 111 battery containers, the installation will enhance grid stability and help maintain affordable energy prices for households and businesses. Stankov credited past legislative reforms and public-private cooperation for enabling such projects, and emphasized plans to reduce bureaucracy, create jobs, and attract investment.
