First woman wins producer prize since 1977
Pop music star PinkPantheress has been named Producer of the Year at the Brit Awards, becoming the first woman to win the prize since it was established in 1977. At 24, she is also the youngest recipient of the award.
Her hits include Illegal, Stateside, and Boy's a Liar. Her distinctive, self-taught production style is characterized by fast breakbeats and sweet melodies. She began producing at the age of 17 using the equipment she had available, including a karaoke microphone from a Nintendo Wii, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
PinkPantheress has surpassed one billion streams and achieved global success with Boy's a Liar, Pt. 2. Her 2023 mixtape Fancy That reached the top 10 and was nominated for the Mercury Prize.
In an interview with BBC from Sydney, where she is performing at the Laneway Festival, she emphasized the importance of empowering women and maintaining control over one’s career. She noted that she has gained confidence in presenting herself both as an artist and as a pop star, despite the challenges women face in the music industry.
